I’ve been loving this paper project for so long now. It’s a Paper Survival Guide created by Linus to make us giggle and to guide us through certain situations we may encounter in our lives – like needing to look good in the ice age! ;–) Linus & The Feel Good Factory create the most playful paper works and lots of them too, so be sure to check out the rest of the series here. Happy Friday! xo

There is a glorious exhibition happening at the East Gippsland Art Gallery in Victoria called Books…Beyond Words – Evolution. An amazing lineup of artists are taking part in this show including one of my favourite artists Kim McKechnie. This is her paper work titled ‘The Great Australian Dream’. Look at all those beautiful houses – I dream, dream, dream! It will be on show at the gallery until the 2nd of September. Kim has a beautiful blog too called Shipbuilding, so be sure to check it out.

Wire and paper seem to be a theme in my posts lately. Aren’t these amazing?! Odine Lang’s work is inspired by organic forms and their transformations.

For so long I’ve admired the paper creations produced by Kami No Kousakujo from Japan. Kami No Kousakujo is a collaborative project where designers and producers work together to create innovative products made of paper, you know, like the amazing Airvase, Kami-Megane, and the brilliant Broom Broom to name just a few.

On a recent trip to Tokyo we were invited to visit their factory; a place where paper comes to life! I was totally and completely in paper paradise I was! To be in the company of people who love paper as much as I do, and who have made it their life’s work was certainly an experience I’ll never forget. DREAM. COME. TRUE!

Akiyoshi Yamada and Shoko Yamada from Kami No Kousakujo make designers paper dreams come true. They gave us a tour of their factory and it was inspiring to see just how passionate they both are about this ongoing project. They showed us how Tapehooks are made (by wetting and curling tracing paper would you believe!), and even how the Airvases are cut (top secret stuff!). You’d be amazed at how much testing goes on in order to produce these products.

Kami No Kousakujo is all about experimenting and finding new and unusual ways to create with paper. And with many of Japan’s top creative minds involved, it’s not hard to see why this project continues to wow the world with brilliant paper products.

And yep we brought some back with us! There are six new products in the shop today and all of them were produced in this very factory. They are beautiful and brilliant and I’m so excited to have them in the shop. Enjoy! xo

gift wrapping with fabric - corner tie wrap... August 1, 2011

howto_1
Since adding the new fold section to the shop I’ve been playing with fabrics and discovering new ways of wrapping things. I’ve loved wrapping gifts since I was a kid, and well nothing has changed over the years. I used to tell my sister that I wanted to be a professional gift wrapper – is there such a thing?? Anyway, here is a nice way to wrap a gift with fabric. You can download the how-to here. And if you like it, please let me know and I’ll keep on adding more :) Happy folding, friends! xo

playing with offcuts... July 28, 2011

This is the ORI series by Label Creators from Japan. It got me thinking about how one simple piece of fabric can be turned into something really useful with just a few folds. The ORI series is a perfect example of how offcuts in manufacturing can be recycled to create clever and interesting products such as these. The ORI series is produced from 100% canvas offcuts that would otherwise have been thrown away. What a beautiful and brilliant idea.

evolving paper... July 25, 2011

Helen Hiebert’s medium is handmade paper and she’s fascinated by the invisible occurrences that take place throughout her papermaking process. Helen along with filmmaker Gretchen Hogue created a short film titled, Water Paper Time that explores (with time-lapse photography) how time, gravity, and molecular structure bend, tear and wrinkle paper in the most unusual ways.
