Paper yarn is a bit of a mystery to me and in my efforts to learn more about it I came across these beautiful products by Finnish design company Woodnotes.
Ritva Puotila (pictured above) founded Woodnotes with her son Mikko Puotila in 1987 and they became the first in the world to use paper yarn as a functional textile for making modern interior products. The paper yarn used by Woodnotes has been spun from durable heavyweight paper that can be recycled or burned to produce energy. Their paper yarn products are not only beautiful but biodegradable too.
Above is a small selection of blinds, rugs, baskets, bags and more all designed by Woodnotes using paper yarn and once again I find myself completely astonished by just how wonderfully versatile paper is.

intriguing indeed. I’m still getting my head around how this is different from other plant fibre based yarns. And how does it feel in the hand?
