Last weekend we held our first workshop and it was so much fun. As you can tell we were lucky enough to access a very beautiful location – Ryokan Gojyuan in Balmain, Sydney. It’s soon to open its doors to be a traditional Japanese style inn with tatami mat guest rooms and shōji screens that open onto a beautiful garden and koi pond. Oh and there’s a bath house for guests too. It’s going to be amazing!

Our instructor Yoshie Kumagai showed us how to use furoshiki and tenugui to wrap books, bottles, boxes and many other everyday items too. There were lots of oohs and ahhs from everyone as we were shown simple and beautiful ways to bundle up things for transporting – not a plastic bag in sight!

We sipped Japanese tea and enjoyed delicious wagashi thanks to Linda from Ryokan Gojyuan. We had such a good time and I would really like to thank everyone who joined us. If you’re interested in participating in future workshops please email me and I’ll be sure to contact you with upcoming workshop details. If you would like to purchase furoshiki or tenugui we have many here in the shop.

P.S. That last image shows Yoshie and I holding up one very gigantic furoshiki! Yoshie tells me it’s good for transporting pieces of furniture. I might try that next time I move – wish me luck!
